As part of the course, you will complete two scuba dives in one day, giving you practical experience and reinforcing what you’ve learned. Join us to enhance your diving skills and confidence in boat diving!

PADI Boat Diver Specialty Course eLearning

Online learning makes it easy to fit the PADI Boat Diver Specialty Course into your busy schedule and complete the knowledge development sections whenever and wherever it is convenient for you. Work at your own pace, online or offline, using a computer or mobile device.

As part of the first dive of the PADI Boat Diver Specialty Course, we will review your diving skills in the water to ensure you are comfortable throughout the two dives. Either on the boat trip to the Great Barrier Reef or before the trip, we will review your eLearning results to ensure a smooth certification process.

eLearning Time Commitment: 2 – 4 hours

This flexible approach allows you to gain the necessary knowledge and skills at your convenience, ensuring you are well-prepared and confident for your boat diving adventure.

Minimum Age and Prerequisites

Minimum Age: 10 years

Divers certified as PADI Boat Diver Specialty between the ages of 10 and 14 will earn a PADI Junior Boat Diver Specialty certification. Any replacement card or eCard purchased after the diver’s 15th birthday will automatically show a PADI Boat Diver Specialty certification (not Junior Boat Diver Specialty).

Course Prerequisites:

  • Any diver with an Open Water (or Junior Open Water) Diver certification may enroll in the PADI Boat Diver Specialty Course.
  • Complete the PADI Boat Diver Specialty eLearning.
  • Participate in the two dives.

Special Conditions:

  • Special conditions apply to 10 and 11-year-old PADI Junior Open Water Divers.

Join us to enhance your boat diving skills and gain confidence in diving from boats!

Certification Benefits

Upon completion of the PADI Boat Diver Specialty Course, you will be qualified to:

Plan, Organize, Make, and Log Open Water Boat Dives:

    • Conduct dives in conditions generally comparable to or better than those in which you were trained.

Apply for the Master Scuba Diver Rating:

    • If you are a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver and a PADI Rescue Diver (or hold a qualifying certification from another training organization) with certification in four other PADI Specialty ratings and have 50 logged dives, you can apply for the prestigious Master Scuba Diver rating.

Join us to expand your diving skills and open new opportunities for underwater exploration and recognition!

Medical Requirements

Scuba diving requires a minimum level of health and fitness. Chronic health conditions, certain medications, and/or recent surgery may necessitate written approval from a physician before you can dive.

To avoid disappointment, please review the “Diver Medical Form” to determine if you need a physician’s approval before enrolling in the PADI Boat Diver Specialty Course. As your instructor, I am not a physician and cannot provide medical advice.

The best course of action is to visit your physician for a check-up before enrolling. Ensure your medical statement declares you “fit to dive,” and from there, it’s plain sailing!

By taking this step, you’ll be ready to fully enjoy your diving experience with confidence and peace of mind.

Other Costs and Equipment

Personal Equipment:

  • Each student needs to have their own mask, fins, and snorkel. Some snorkeling equipment may be suitable for scuba diving.
  • If you don’t have these items, you can purchase them from our store in Port Douglas.

Scuba Equipment:

  • All necessary scuba equipment can be provided for $60.00 per day for the open water dives, totaling $60.00 for the course.

We aim to ensure you have everything you need for a safe and enjoyable diving experience. If you have any questions or need assistance with your equipment, our team is here to help!

PADI 5 Star Instructor Development Centre

PADI 5 Star Instructor Development Centre

Learning to dive at a PADI 5 Star Instructor Development Centre ensures you receive top-quality instruction and facilities for your PADI Boat Diver Specialty Course. Upon certification, you will receive a prestigious “Gold” certification card.

We maintain small class sizes, providing you with nearly individual attention from our experienced instructors. Our instructors are fluent and relaxed in teaching scuba diving, ensuring a comfortable and supportive learning environment.

The PADI Boat Diver Specialty Course is performance-based, meaning both you and your instructor need to feel confident in your diving skills before moving on to the next stage. This approach ensures you have ample time to develop into a confident and competent diver.

Your enjoyment is essential for two main reasons: it increases the likelihood that you will continue diving and encourages you to become an advocate for the marine environment. Your enthusiasm and commitment can inspire others and contribute to the protection and preservation of our precious marine ecosystems.

Email our PADI Course Director Wayne Abraham for more information.

What’s Next?

As a certified PADI Boat Diver Specialist, you can:

  • Buy or hire scuba equipment.
  • Plan no-decompression dives with a buddy to a maximum depth of 18 meters.
  • Deal with and even prevent minor issues.
  • Enroll in continuing education courses to explore special interests you may have.

You have exciting options for furthering your diving education, such as the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course (eLearning available). This course consists of five dives over two days. Each dive is the first dive of that specialty course. Two dives are required: Underwater Navigation and Deep, and you can choose the other three based on your interests.

Can you go straight on to this course? Yes! Consider this: after completing the PADI Open Water Diver course and PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course in quick succession, you will have at least nine dives under the direct supervision of your PADI Instructor. You will have experienced a variety of dive sites and become proficient in equipment setup, buddy contact, predive safety checks, ascents, descents, and much more.
