We protect the Great Barrier Reef at ABC Snorkel Charters Port Douglas. It’s at the core of our operation and all that we do. Why? Apart from the incalculable intrinsic value, we are very directly reliant on a healthy Reef for our existence as a company. We understand the Reef is a fragile ecosystem, subject to numerous threats. We are committed to protecting the reef and the environment in general. We are thrilled to be in a position to conduct a minimal impact Reef operation. At ABC Snorkel Charters we provide small number Reef trips, big on experience.

Our Low Impact Port Douglas Reef Tours

We protect the reef by promoting a strict “Take only photos, leave only bubbles” policy.
Educate our customers about reef ecology with informative marine talks and teaching reef conservation courses (Project Aware).
Use very fuel efficient and economical vessels, with modern diesel engines.
Choose live boat snorkeling wherever possible, over physical attachment options like anchoring. If anchoring is unavoidable, then hand guided placement is used for tight spots.
Use “green” and recyclable materials where appropriate. In line with our ECO certification.
Explore new sites regularly, which helps to avoid sites becoming “over-used”.

Our freedom from obligation to use permanent moorings, means we head for the merely incredible. Should we find something spectacular on the way, we jump in and have a look. If it blows us away, we stay and play.  Our ability to cruise and explore, enables us to provide fantastic, old school, totally exploratory days.

ABC Snorkel Charters will get you to parts of the Reef, rarely seen by others. Adventures that are nothing short of world class. Snorkelling these pristine, un-visited environments is a rare thrill. It’s certainly not the standard experience of other visitors to the Reef. ABC is visiting the Reef, the way it should be done.
